  2. Is Bilbo a Baggins or a Took? He can be both at times, but to which family is he truly modeling his life after? As far as the Bagginses, he pays homage to them when he is uptight and uneasy around random people. For example, at the beginning of the book, Bilbo was uncomfortable when random people were going into his house. Bilbo shows his Took side when he decided to go on the adventure. Also, when he risked his life to save a group of people he barely knew, he was being brave like a Took. With his pack of people who traveled like fugitives, they would put themselves in dangerous situations. He's very curious and blunders a lot, just like a Took. In conclusion, Bilbo is more of a Took than a Baggins, even though his surname disagrees.

Beowulf is very, very, brave. To prove he wasn’t a spoiled brat, he swam an ocean for 7 days and battled a ferocious sea monster. Beowulf was also confident that he would be able to kill Grendel. He also astonished people by proving that he wasn’t spoiled. Beowulf decided to go to the Spear Danes to kill Grendel. He doesn’t kill him, but hurt him. He also was willing to die to get Grendel, who’s been ravishing the once prosperous Spear Danes. That’s why I think that Beowulf is really brave.

  4. The Hobbit is not educational for school. In the book there are mythical characters that are not even real in today's world. Characters such as the hobbit, wizards, dwarves, wood elves, huge spiders, and goblins. Many of the mythical creatures are half the size of a normal child.
The spiders and the eagles make it even more realistic. Spiders being bigger than you, almost twice the size and being able to fly on an eagle? This could make a child believe there are such things as dragons or hobbits somewhere in the world.
The Hobbit is located in the fantasy section of book stores. Even though it's there in the section of fantasy/dystopian, it's not educational. It seems there is no value or lesson to learn in the Hobbit.

The Hobbit is about fanatsy characters going on an adventure to a dragon and so it does not seem that it is educational for children in school.

Books are windows to your imagination. The hobbit book is full of wonderful details. To have many details in your story helps the reader imagine what is happening in the story.you have made a big blunder if you think the Hobbit doesn't have detaild. many people think this book is boring and doesn't lead you to your imagination. the hobbit uses many details and always pushes you to use your imagination this book is very exciting. the Hobbit is a window to many kids imagination.

After Beowulfs death Wiglaf was king but a prediction to what happened after the book. was Wiglaf a trusted king was he loyal and good to the spear danes. thats were the argument comes in. in this book I think Wiglaf is a good king but some people who read the book might not think he is a good king and the spear danes may think the same way. In the last part of Beowulf said "Wiglaf i want you to build me a barrow in honor of my sake" this means that Beowulf was trusting Wiglaf to be a good leader to the spear danes. Is Wiglaf a good king?

  7. In the book, "The Hobbit", Bilbo learns to become a true hero. In the beginning of the story, Bilbo was reluctant to travel to the Lonely Mountain. On page 5, Bilbo says, "Sorry, I don't want to go on any adventures". A real hero would never turn down adventure. As the story progresses, Bilbo learns the roots of becoming a true hero, helping others. On page 35, Bilbo saves the company from the trolls by telling Thorin where the dwarves were. Bilbo says, "The dwarves are over there". In the middle of the story, Bilbo becomes a fugitive and steals the keys to the elven jails. He learns that heroes put themself in danger for others. On page 163, the book says, "Very soon, the elf had no keys". Bilbo frees the dwarves from the impassible jails. Therefor, Bilbo was a coward, but became a true hero.

  8. Sir Gawain it true to his promises because when he made a promise to the Green Knight he kept it even though it might of involved death. Another example was when the lady of the caste the dwelling where Sir Gawain was staying was tricking him into kissing him but Sir Gawain was polite and respectful but didn't let her kiss him. Sir Gawain was also true to his promises when he went out of the castle and looked for the green knight. (who was close by) He thought he was going to get beaten but instead the king was rueful because he was true to his promises he only got one beating instead of three. In conclusion keeping your promises pays off in the end.

Vocabulary: rueful: to have pity dwelling : a building or a place of shelter to live in.

  10. Beowulf is a much better book than Sir Gawain and The Green Night. Sir Gawain And The Green Night is much harder to comprehend. I was astonished about how tricky it was to understand. Even the author said it was hard to understand! He said "by no means easy to understand" in the preface to fist edition on page v. Beowulf on the other hand is a very fun and enjoying book to read.it tells about a srong man named beowulf that faces a ruthless monster named Grendell. Therefore beowulf is a great and fun book to read.

  12. Is Bilbo Baggins Really a Bad Guy?

Bilbo Baggins is really a bad guy. At first he did not want to go on the expedition. He was lazy and didn't want to explore new things. The only reason he went was because he was forced to go when Gandalf bursts into his house, rushes him out, and makes him go on the expedition. "That leaves you just ten minutes. You will have to run.” Bilbo also stole gollum’s ring. Even though gollum is a bad guy, it doesn’t mean you should steall. “The Baggins has got it in its pocketses” Bilbo had stolen gollum’s special ring. Bilbo has also gotten the dwarfs into almost impassable challenges. For example; Bilbo got them stuck in the barrels, he forced them to save him after he got caught with the giants/trolls, and many other situations. Bilbo Baggins may seem like a good guy, but in reality is is actually a troublemaker.

  13. Bilbo Baggins is not brave enough to be a real hero.
First of all, he doesn't even have the audacity to want to go on the journey in the first place and wouldn't have even gone if he didn't have to- for example, on page 91, Bilbo says, '"must we go any farther?"'.
Secondly, he always becomes flummoxed and asks for help right away, where a real hero would first try to resolve things on his own. You can see an example of this when it says “Bilbo’s heart jumped to his mouth. He gave a terrific squirm.”, and it goes on to basically say that Bilbo was just struggling and asking or help; not really doing anything himself.
Lastly, he is small and not someone who would be thought of as a hero. It seems that people don’t take him as seriously as they might if he were just a little bit bigger. An example of this is when Gandalf calls Bilbo “[an] excitable little fellow”.
In conclusion, I don’t think Bilbo is the best hero because he doesn’t enjoy going on the journey and is always asking for help right away. By doing these things, people may not take him seriously as a hero.

  14. Bilbo is a homebody and too weak to be a hero.
First, Bilbo is a homebody “he wants to be home cooking eggs and bacon.” Secondly, Gandalf and the dwarves have to beg him to go on the Quest. He says, “No, this journey is too much for me.” This states Bilbo is not very audacious. Lastly, Bilbo is not very adventurous. When he is in danger, he calls for help and Gandalf likely saves him. For example, “When Bilbo was in danger of the trolls, Gandalf came with the dwarves.” In conclusion, Bilbo is too weak to be a hero.

  15. Is King Arthur a hero or not?

King Arthur should be a hero because he did many things in the green knight. For example when the green knight came he said i will fight the knight. By doing that he put himself infront of others. And said i will die you don't. but he did not die that day. Another example of King Arthur being a hero is when the author states him saying i will fight the green knight and he did not flunk out of the fight. One example is when he did kill the green knight. But in one year and one day he would go to where the green knight is and he would be beheaded too. Because when he fought the green knight he beheaded him but in one year he would come back and behaed the king.

  16. The Hobbit should not be read in schools. Some students may find it too challenging and not understand the text. If schools are going to make kids read it, they should at least let them decide if they are at the level to read it. "At school, some of the books we read are hard and confusing. I would rather read a boring book I understand than an action-packed book I don't understand." (www.abcnews.com/) Another reason is that some kids may find it boring and choose not to read it. If kids are forced to read something they dislike, this will make them think negatively upon the book and the author. Negative thinking can cause kids to stop reading the book. Some kids may even have a SQUABBLE about their opinions on the book. "In middle school, I had to read this really boring book. I did not like it, but I had to read it for school. I stopped reading it after the second chapter. I started to fall behind, and it impacted my grades. I wish schools would let kids have an option with the books they are reading." (www.washingtonpost.com/) Lastly, it's a lot of responsibility. Between the book, the assignments, the tests, and the meeting, there are a lot of materials and preperation required. Even though you can learn time management and organization, if you begin falling behind because of a simple BLUNDER, there can be stress. "I love homework, and I don't mind doing it, but sometimes there can be a lot. I'm thankful for all that it teaches me, but it can cause me to stress." (www.washingtonpost.com/) For all of these reasons, schools should not require kids to read The Hobbit.

    BY: Ava Senne 1/9/15
Beowulf and the dragon fight was the haartest fight because first the dragon had fire breath and was very mighting. “The murderous flames from mouth flew hot towards Beowulf” on page 137. Next the dragon had powerful wing and only have one weakness. “Nighttime fell and the dragon began flying in the black sky” on page 126. Beowulf dies killing the dragon. ‘Beowulf had spoken his last words” on page 147. That so why Beowulf and the dragon fight was the hardest fight.

  18. The Hobbit should not be read because it is inappropreite for children 8 and under. The Hobbit uses very strong launguge for the litature. On page 15 when Gandalf said "Hush! Let Thorin speak!!" Gandalf is very impassable and stubborn. It is also very inappropreite because it is scary for children, In chapter 8, page 151 when Bilbo battles the spider. that can be not audauious for children. The Hobbit is also a little violent for children because on page 60 they battle the goblins and it is a bloddy battle between them. The Hobbit also has other battles with other creatures like on page 96 when Gandalf throws the lightning. The Hobit is inappropreite for children 8 and under.

You may think of Bilbo Baggins as a kind, shy character who will never talk crossly or yell at anyone, but as the book goes on he becomes more self-confident. This leads to him speaking his mind not to nicely. This is why Bilbo becomes a mean figure. One example of why Bilbo is a mean character is when he thinks of the audacious plan to escape the wood-elves by riding barrels down the river. This leads to some grumbling from the dwarves and Bilbo tells them there is no better idea none to nicely. Another example of when Bilbo cross following that is when the dwarves are out of the barrels. They start to grumble and complain. “Well are you alive or are you dead?” is how Bilbo responds to this on page 117. It is true that the dwarves did survive, but Bilbo should have been more sympathetic. After all, he had been on top of the barrels and had had more food than them.
The final reason why Bilbo is a mean character as the story progresses is when he finds a door the was hiding the treasure. Bilbo sits there for days trying to figure out how to open the doors. The dwarves start to get impatient and Bilbo overhears them complaining about how he was doing nothing. “Good Gracious!” he thought “ so that’s what they’re beginning to think, is it?... I don’t think I can bear seeing the unhappy village of Dale again, and as for that steaming gate!!!” This is how he reacts on page 192. This shows how he can get aggravated very easily. Therefore, Bilbo becomes a mean character as the story progresses.

I think Beowulf is the strongest hero. First, he went into dangerous waters with Brenna to show their true courage and everyone was ASTONISHED. “The two friends stralled their mighty swords to their sides and plunged into the waves.” Beowulf also fought with many monsters without weapons such as a JAVELIN “well fought Beowulf, he called the first victory is to you!” Overall I think Beowulf is one of the strongest hero's EVER!!!!!

    Hobbit Argumentative Paragraph
Gandalf is not as good of a wizard as Dumbuldor. First, Gandalf isn't as well respected as Dumbuldor. On page 3 it says "I am looking for someone to share an adventure with." The Hobbit says "We have no use for them. Nasty things." Most people wouldn't do this if Dumbuldor asked the same of them. Second, Gandalf isn't as wise as Dumbuldor. On page 49 it says "Elrond held the map up to the light. ”There are moon letters here!" he said What do they say?" asked Gandalf and Thorin together, a bit vexed perhaps that even Elrond should have found out first." Third, Gandalf doesn't fight as well as Harry. When Gandalf is trapped in a tree with wolves at the bottom Gandalf tried to get out. On page 95 it says what he did. "Gandalf set a pinecone alight with a blue flame and sent it whizzing down to the circle of wolves." This helped the wolves. They spread the fire to the bottom of the tree where Gandalf was. Harry would have stunned the wolves long enough for him to escape. In conclusion Gandalf is not as good of a wizard as Harry.

Bilbo is an asset to the dwarves. He saved them on countless occasions with his audacious plans and quick-thinking. For example, in the chapter Flies and Spiders, on page 151 it said “...the spiders suddenly gave up, and followed them no more, but went back and disappeared in their dark colony.” He is also an asset to the dwarves not through his own pure talent, but his luck. He came upon Gollum’s ring and stole it. This ring made his invisible. This was shown on page 78, when it said “...because it was a ring of power, and if you slip it on your finger, you were invisible…”. He also has queen eyesight as a hobbit, and is even better than the two youngest dwarves, Fili and Kili, who are about 50. Bilbo Baggins is an asset to the dwarves because of his quick-thinking, his ring, and his eyesight.

  25. Thorin should be the main character in the book, The Hobbit, because he has to solve the biggest problems. Thorin is a better candidate for being a main character than Bilbo is because Thorin has to lead the group. This is important because Thorin has to lead the group in choosing which way to go to get to the mountain. Also Thorin is trustworthy to lead the group because when he gets lost he was “far form cetin of even the direction he had been going in when he had his fall” (page 65) Thorin also has to keep track of everyone and there safety along with the key and the map of the land. All Bilbo has to do is stay with the group which he failed to do. As well Thorin has the pressure of taking back the mountain from his ancestors, but Bilbo has no motivation to save the mountain. These reasons are why Thorin is a better main character.

Sir Gawain is Brave because he acts strong.
When he chopped off the Green Knights head, Sir Gawain was the only one in the room who was not afraid.
When the Challenge was supposed to be for King Arthur, Sir Gawain stepped foward saying "Gawain I am, who give thee this buffet, let may what come of it; and at this time twelve month will I take another at thine hand with whatsoever weapon thou wilt" He takes the challenge and goes fourth, completing course by course, with no fears in his mind. He's also a noble knight. In Part 3 The Lord of the Castle told Sir Gawain he will tell anything he needs. In return Sir Gawain will share anything he recieves from the castle with the Lord. When Sir Gawain recieves a kiss from The Lord of the Castle's wife, He has to be noble and Kiss the lord back, for he recieved, now he must share it

  28. The Hobbit Argumentative Paragraph
My claim is that Bilbo Baggins is a better hero than Thorin. My reasons that support that is that Bilbo has saved Thorin and the rest of the Dwarves 2 times from danger. Also, Bilbo is smarter and lighter on his feet. He is braver and has a sharper sword blade. Thorin may be stronger, but Bilbo would beat him in a fight, and plus Bilbo has an invisible ring. That is why I think Bilbo is a better hero than Thorin.

  29. The trolls are scarier than the spiders in the Hobbit. First of all the trolls are a lot bigger than the spiders. On page 32 it says, " Either he shouldhave gone back quietly and warned his friends that there were three fair-sized trolls at hand in a nasty mood." Second of all, the trolls do much scarier things. On page 32 it says, " He took a big bite off a sheep's leg he was roasting, and wiped his lips on his sleeve. Finally the trolls eat animals and other creatures like the dwarves. Hero of the Hobbit

Bilbo is the most courageous hero in The Hobbit. In the beginning of the book when the journey starts Bilbo has to deal with much displeasure, which he would not have to deal with if he was at home. On page 29 it states “… He splashed behind the others in a very muddy track…the rain had gotten into the dry clothes and into the food bags.” Also, Bilbo has to fight for himself in situations where he is alone. Once Bilbo had to fight off a large audacious spider. One page 169-170 explains Bilbo’s victory “Bilbo came at it before it could disappear and stuck it with his sword right in the eyes…until he killed it with another stroke.” Furthermore, Bilbo uses his resources very wisely. During the book Bilbo finds a magical ring that can make him disappear he uses this ring wisely and to help the dwarves. On page 171 it explains “ Also Bilbo had slipped on his ring before he started. That is why the spiders neither saw nor heard him coming.” Although Bilbo does sometimes get foiled he is a very strong hero in The Hobbit.

Beowulf is a great man. he is a noble man i know this because he risks his life to fight for his people and friends. he even dies for the sake of saving the Geats, his homeland. Beowulf can also take anything on. he will fight anything like the dragon and Grendel. he also fights Grendel's mom even though the fight with Grendel almost killed him. my final thought is that Beowulf i the most super of all people. I know this because he beats many monsters, goes swimming for eight days strait, and became the king of his land. these all prove that Beowulf is a great man.

  33. Leaders are important. They can make the difference in whatever they are leading. However, Thorin is not a very good leader. To start, Thorin is captured by the elves before the other dwarves. This makes him a bad leader because he is the most expierienced fighter, yet he left the lives of the dwarves in Bilbo's hands. To prove this, on page 181, it says 'Thorin had been captured much quicker than they had. " the team could no longer depend on him for help, making the journey harder.Another reason Thorin is a bad leader is that Thorin leaves the hard work for Bilbo and does not appreciate his service. On page 210, Bilbo says, if you really want to go on this silly journey-it's yours after all not mine." This shows that Thorin has not been doing his job as Bilbo is implying. In reply, Thorin only grumbles. The last reason Thorin is a bad leader is that he gets distracted from the task at hand by his greed. On page 263 Bilbo and Thorin are talking. Thorin says "Come come!"said Thorin laughing. His spirits began to rise again and precious stones jingled in his pockets...That wont be till Smaug's dead said Bilbo." This shows Bilbo on task but Thorin being distracted. Overall, Thorin makes many mistakes as a leader. Personally and with this evidence, I believe Bilbo would make a much better leader.

    Beowulf is the best hero.
First Beowulf risks his life many times on page 24 when it says “On the fourth day still not feeling tired, they saw another evil creature in the water, and this time Brecca attacked it.”
Second he has the strength of thirty men, it says this on page 43 when it says “My lord, men from the land of the Geats are waiting outside, they’ve journeyed across the ocean, and their leader, whom they call Beowulf, wishes to speak to you.”
Lastly he is very courageous, the book shows this on page 132 when it’s says “the former slave pointed to the hidden entrance. That is the way, which is where I ran in panic. It’s through that entrance that you’ll find treasures and the guardian.”

  37. Should Thorin be considered a "True" leader?

Thorin, as we all know, is the main dwarf of the twelve. Our beloved leader of the team is greatly known by many due to his courage, combat skills, and determination. But how could anyone forget that beared, though?
Anyway, although Thorin continues to lead the group of fugitives through the "Unexpected Journey," he doesn't act like the "Best Leader in the World teehee" that the dwarves say he is. Throughout the journey Thorin picks up some different emotions about the whole thing. Some of these things include the so called, "Dragon Sickness," His want for vengance increaces, and he becomes so obsessed with the Arkenstone and the treasure that he'd rather go to war than share his winnings with the rightful owners.
So, would you want to have such a leader as Thorin, a marauding, selfish barbarian? Or be lead by someone else? The dwarf's legacy still lives on, but he was never the proper leader...

And when the kingdom is under attack, he fights a great dragon and dies in doing so. All of this shows that Beowulf is a brave and noble hero.

  42. The spider are the scariest and hardest things to defeat Bilbo and the dwarfs come across. When Bilbo wakes up he realizes he is trapped in sticky almost impassable spider web. He had to put on his invisibility ring and fight off the spiders and lead them away from the other dwarfs. “ Very soon the Hobbit would be caught in a thick fence of them all around him-that at least was the spiders’ idea. Standing now in the middle of the hunting and spinning insects Bilbo plucked up his courage and began a new song…”
He helps a couple other dwarfs who then help the other dwarfs escape. Not all the dwarfs had their weapons so only the ones who could stand and had their weapons could fight off the spiders. “Then the battle began. Some of the dwarves had knives, and some had sticks, and all of them could get at stone. And Bilbo had his elfish dagger; again and again the spiders were beaten off, and many of them were killed. But it could not go on for long. Bilbo was nearly tired out; only four of the dwarves were able to stand firmly, and soon they would all be overpowered like weary flies.”
After quite a while they begin to falter and get very weary and tired and they start thinking that this is the way they would die. They grow more and more tired until they could barely stand, suddenly the spiders retreat. Then they suddenly realize they had wandered into a clearing the elves used. At that exact moment in terrible fright they realize that Thorin was never with them. “
